The left wing-tip contains the Bob Archer marker beacon antenna. RG174 coax was used as it's only 0.1" diameter & made it possible to string it through the small bushings in the QB wing. The more standard RG58/U is 0.195" diameter & has about half the losses of RG174 at 100 MHz.
Test Results:
Climbed over ETB to test wing-tip nav antenna with a number of High Altitude VORs.
At 3000 ft MSL (2100 AGL) got radial & ID for GRB (68 nm), DLL (72) & OBK (72).
At 7000 ft, got radial for PMM (107 nm) but no ID.
Continued to 8000 ft but could not pick up DBQ (128).
These results appear to exceed the published reception range for High Altitude VORs,
tabulated below.
Also flew a practice ILS 21 at SBM with localizer & glide-slope functioning perfectly.
